rainy day

You all love and wait for the monsoon season to arrive. You upload pictures & videos of rain on your WhatsApp and Instagram stories with images or boomerangs of rain. Don’t you love the smell from the earth when it rains ? It is so soothing and fresh

No doubt, we feel respite from the heat, but the nightmares that come along with the rain is something you dread. Here is what I experienced on one such day and maybe what some of you might have experienced on a rainy day.

As I woke up the other day, it was cloudy outside. I could hear thunder. Reminded me of the poem of childhood – “I hear thunder, I hear thunder, oh, don’t you? oh, don’t you?” I kept singing it and my husband was getting annoyed. I love the sound of rain. But what I did not think while all this singing was, that I also had to go to work. And if it rains, what my day would be like or what I had to go through.

As lightening and sound of thunder increased, the problems started pouring in too. The maids got late and the electricity went. There is some connection between electricity and rain. Finally, I waved my husband goodbye. It was my turn to finish my household chores and get ready for work.

When I was about to step out of the house, it started raining cats and dogs. If you don’t drive, there are some disadvantages. There was no auto-rickshaw to take me to the metro station. It took me an hour to book a cab. There was a heavy traffic jam on the road with choco blocks. There were puddles everywhere and so much water logging.

Only songs on rain were coming on the FM.

As I was mid-way still stuck in the traffic jam,I noticed that we were stuck there because a tree had fallen in the middle of the road. I was angry and my love for that lovely weather was gone with the wind. People were abusing each other on the roads. I already started having Monday blues and my mood was totally spoiled.

When I finally reached the office, some of the people were drenched.  Everyone was in a weird mood. There were a few who didn’t come across fallen trees and rain, so they were making plans to drink hot beverages and eat samosas & pakodas. The whole day passed by and the rain had stopped while we were inside.

By evening, there was rain again! Reaching the metro station again was a struggle. Getting down from the metro and reaching home took me forever. My hair was all messed up and the condition of my shoes was really awful.

As much as I love rain, however I dislike this hassle and chaos caused due to excessive rain. As long as you are sitting inside with a cup of tea and enjoying the rain, it is a blessing.

A positive reminder to myself that keeps me going – Keep Calm & Love Rainy Days.
