The First Sunday of August 2019 was FRIENDSHIP’S DAY. It leads me to so many thoughts on friendship and friends. Have you ever given a thought to it –  Aren’t all the day’s friendship days? Do you have to celebrate with friends only on friendship day?

As long as you have friends, every day is friendship day. When you have friends sometimes you don’t need a particular reason to celebrate. Every other day can be a party or a treat with your friends.

In the midst of all your friends and peers, I am sure you all have that one special friend whom you call – BFF/BAE/Bestie or a Best Friend with whom you are the closest to. You relate the most to this particular friend. With him/her you don’t need anyone else. He/she is like your mirror, your confidant and a person whom you can rely on.

They say, if a friendship lasts for 7 years, it will last forever.

We get a lot of happiness if we are in a happy environment. Has it ever happened to you, that you miss your bestie so much that you want to pick them up from the pics and hug them? I have experienced such a thing. And today I just felt like sharing it with you.

I and my bestie Shruti Mam became friends a decade ago. Being with her, I feel like I am home. It was at my workplace where I became friends with her. We used to teach together, talk in our breaks, share our lunch and spent 6-7 hours daily with each other. She used to share all her talks with me. I used to look forward to my next day because of her. Sometimes the way you connect with a person is beyond words.

She was married at that time and I was single. Always teaching me about life, that it wouldn’t be simple in coming years. She has a son, who is my cute heart. With the passage of time, she now has a daughter too and she is a doll. I have spent so much time with them. With her, it felt as if every day was friendship’s day. She has always been there in all my happy and sad times. When things didn’t go well she understood me and comforted me. Her support has been never-ending to me.

From creating worksheets to lesson plans, crazy stay backs, with endless discussions and making lessons, we have been through it all together. We used to plan our class assemblies and annual day practices together. Our kids in the classroom also could feel that we are the best of friends. Even our time of foot injury was also the same. We were the crape bandage partners.

“A best friend is like a four-leaf clover, hard to find and lucky to have”

After almost 8 years, I had to resign and move out of India for some time. When I left, I truly understood the value of my friend. Now that we weren’t able to meet every day is when I realized her worth. When I came back, I got married. She was there for me always and became a part of all my celebrations and festivities. How times change, now she has moved out of India. With so much of a time difference, we are unable to talk that much.

With so much distance, I sometimes feel lost. But I guess no matter how much the distance is, we are connected with our hearts. Shruti Mam I want to tell you, words would never be enough to describe how much you mean. You have been a shoulder to cry on, someone whom I can lean on.

I miss you and our times spent together every single day. No matter how hard the day seemed, you always got me through it. You are my bestie and I am thankful to God for giving me such a friend. I am lucky to find you, who is my kind of crazy.
