I recently shifted to a new place. I was trying to get accustomed to the surroundings and my new neighbors. At that time my neighbor – Anubhav invited me to have tea on a Thursday afternoon. I was excited to meet him and his wife. Little did I know that I would be in for a surprise.
After being welcomed by Anubhav, we sat in his living room, he offered me a cold glass of water, he went into the kitchen to get some snacks. I kept wondering about his wife. In the middle of our conversation, I broke the inevitable question – Isn’t your wife around? And a smile came in response. She was at work. He added he was a work from home husband. He swiftly laid down the dishes for our lunch leaving me all surprised. I was intrigued by Anubhav and Avni‘s unusual love story which I would love to share with you all.
Love was in the air!
Anubhav a tall, dark and handsome guy who did his MBA from Symbiosis has a nuclear family. His family stays in Rajasthan. He used to work and stay in Gurgaon. Avni, a beautiful girl who is full of life, works with Paytm in Noida. Her parents stay in Delhi.
They both met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Anubhav & Avni started hanging out and fell in love. They shared the news of getting married with their parents, they all decided upon the functions. They got together in Delhi for their wedding at the Tivoli Gardens. A love story one can only ever dream of.
Who could have imagined that after marriage the role of Anubhav and Avni would be reversed?
There are some roles that our society does not approve of, some roles which our conscience doesn’t allow. After getting married Anubhav decided to be a full-time work from home husband and Avni, an ambitious wife would work in the corporate world. He wanted to work by being at home and she wanted to make a career by going out to work.
Who says only a woman can be an amazing homemaker?
Anubhav never complained that he had to buy the grocery, buy vegetables, cook food, wash clothes & keep the home spic and span. He has his own company and does all the work from home. The home management which society expects should be done by the lady of the house is actually done by Anubhav. He is the one hanging out with the neighbors and receiving guests at home. Avni could not have asked for more. The kind of space he gave Avni was something she never saw any of her married friends get. Even some of my married friends were expected to do all the household chores and some were even not allowed to work outside.
Marriage is all about letting each other grow and being supportive of each other in every situation.
Avni worked hard and focused on her career. She gave credit to Anubhav for giving her a wonderful life. She was even encouraged by Anubhav to attend all work-related outings with her colleagues. Anubhav told Avni that he would be keeping the Karva Chauth fast as he would be home and it would be easier to keep in comparison to Avni who would have to go for work. Avni did all the outside works happily, whether it was going to the bank or paying the bills. She maintains her work-life balance well.
Finding it hard to believe!
You must have seen the movie ki and ka, which is just a fiction. I saw love and support in Anubhav & Avni which seems so good to be true however, it really is. Alas, Indian society is such. The roles of both men and women were completely pre-defined by our society. Men were supposed to go out and earn & the women had to take care of the house.
With time women have started venturing out to make their career. What didn’t change is the responsibility of women to handle household chores along with their office. To conclude, a woman’s responsibility has been increasing. They don’t make men like Anubhav who relieve their working wives from the household responsibilities, who believe in sharing duties.
Unfortunately, our society doesn’t accept – work from home men and women who go out and work.
Why don’t we take the example of Anubhav and Avni and let our kids do what they want to do in their lives? What opinion do you hold about men and women being considered as equals? I personally met Anubhav and Avni. Learned a lot from them and understood the real meaning of love.
If Anubhav was forced to go out and work and Avni was forced to stay at home and be a homemaker, their marriage would have been a mess/disaster? Yes, who doesn’t have a difference in opinions in their lives?
Acceptance makes a successful marriage.
